CT Man Punches Officer In Face At Popular Bar, Police Say

A Connecticut man was charged with assault after allegedly punching a police officer in the face after refusing to leave a popular axe-throwing bar.

The incident took place in New Haven County on Friday, Oct. 13 in Milford at the Crazy Horse Axe Throwing Lounge on Bridgeport Avenue.

Leonard Alterio III, age 58, of Milford, was charged after police responded to the lounge for a patron who refused to leave, said the Milford Police.

As officers approached Alterio at the bar, he began using expletives and was uncooperative. The officers told him that he had to leave, and he began walking toward the exit, police said.

The officers told him to stop and talk to them, at which time he turned around and got into the officer’s face and used expletives, becoming aggressive. He punched one officer in the face and began fighting with the other officers, police said.

Shortly after officers were able to gain control and detain him. 

Alterio was charged with:

  • Interfering with an officer
  • Assault on a police officer
  • Disorderly conduct

He was held on a $25,000 bond.
